EU Future 100

100 candidates for a democractic europe!

From 6 to 9 June 2024, European elections will determine who is going to steer European policy-making for the next five years. This will be a difficult term marked by global insecurity, migration, climate change, economic challenges, and internal polarisation. EU Future 100 presents 100 candidates beyond party lines and national borders who are up for the challenge and who will work towards making the European Union future-proof, inclusive, safe, and sustainable for all.

Who is organising this campaign?

EU Future 100 is a transnational campaign organised by partners from ten European countries, namely The Innovation in Politics Institute from Austria, Académie des Futurs Leaders from France, Brand New Bundestag from Germany, Ti Candido from Italy, Kleur de Kamer and Stem Op En Vrouw from the Netherlands, Political Watch and Ideas En Guerra from Spain, as well as partners in Belgium, Hungary, Portugal and Poland.

What is the purpose of the EU Future 100?

As civil society actors from ten countries, we are alarmed by the rise of far-right parties, undemocratic discourses and fake news, especially in the context of the upcoming European elections. Against this backdrop, we stand together as democratic, non-partisan civil society organisations to support under-represented political candidates with innovative ideas and a strong outlook on a fair and sustainable future for all. We support those who will protect the values at the core of the European Union: solidarity, human rights, equality, democracy, and the rule of law. We believe in the power of strong links between civil society and parliamentarians to ensure the European Parliament represents the people of Europe better.

How did you select the candidates?

Candidates were chosen by our partners in their respective countries based on the extent to which they stand for innovative, future-proof politics, on their links to civil society and on the underrepresented perspectives they could bring to the European Parliament. The number of candidates per country was derived from the national seat allocations in parliament. We chose candidates that bring political experience as well as newbies. All candidates have been informed of their nomination for the EU Future 100.

How will the candidates collaborate?

We connect the people behind EU Future 100 before and after the elections. This is not merely a list of names, it is the beginning of non-partisan, co-creative collaboration. EU Future 100 candidates get the chance to attend workshops and to join thematic squads to support each other in the run-up to the elections. Once in parliament, we aim to create opportunities for exchange between the candidates that become Members of Parliament, as well as debate spaces for them in different countries with civil society organisations to allow for future-proof policy initiatives across the political spectrum. In addition, we will connect the EU Future 100 with civil society organisations to provide the thematic knowledge and lived experiences necessary for sustainable and inclusive policy drafts.

Why is my country not featured in the EU Future 100?

The ten countries featured in this campaign are home to 67% of all European citizens. Unfortunately we have not been able to find a suitable partner organisation in your country, or they declined to be part of this campaign. We refrained from providing recommendations for candidates from countries other than our own.

How can I get involved?

Please, vote at the European elections from 6 June to 9 June 2024 and give your vote to a candidate who will defend European values and make the European Union future-proof in an inclusive and sustainable way. Share this campaign with the people you know and start conversations in real life and social media around future-proof candidates and the importance of the European elections.
