OUR MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

Progressive voices in parliament with the support of the Brand New Bundestag

Exactly twelve hours after the polling stations closed, at 6 a.m. on September 27, 2021, it was clear: Four candidates supported by Brand New Bundestag will be members of the next Bundestag! With Rasha Nasr, Armand Zorn, Kassem Taher Saleh, and our former volunteer Lena Werner, four young, inspiring individuals entered the German parliament - ready to forge new paths and advance progressive politics.
After our phenomenal success in the federal elections, we have continued, and our squad now consists of 12 members from the Bundestag and state parliaments in Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, North Rhine-Westphalia, Bremen, Bavaria, & Hesse, whom we would like to introduce to you below.

    Rasha Nasr

    Electoral District 159 Dresden-Süd | SPD | List Position 4
    Rasha Nasr ran as the direct candidate for the SPD Dresden in the electoral district 159 Dresden-Süd, Saxony. She also ran in list position 4 on the state list of Saxony, through which she entered the Bundestag. As a member of the Committee on Labor & Social Affairs and spokesperson for the Working Group on Migration and Integration of the SPD parliamentary group, she passionately advocates against structural disadvantages.
    Additionally, Rasha is a substitute member of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, as well as the Committee on Internal Affairs and Homeland. Rasha Nasr impressed the jury with her commitment, clear objectives, and positive, charismatic demeanor. Her parents immigrated from Syria to East Germany in 1986. Rasha fights against structural racism and for the visibility of marginalized groups. It's important to her to engage directly with the voters in her electoral district: preferring to talk with rather than about each other! As a board member of the SPD Dresden, she knows that endurance is required for committee work, but also that strength lies in diversity.

    Armand Zorn

    Electoral District 182 Frankfurt am Main I | SPD
    Armand won the direct mandate in Frankfurt am Main I for the SPD in the 2021 federal election. In the Bundestag, Armand is a member of the Finance Committee as well as the Committee on Digitalization. Additionally, he serves as the deputy spokesperson for the Finance Working Group of the SPD parliamentary group.
    Armand Zorn impressed the Brand New Bundestag jury with his down-to-earth, professional, and charismatic demeanor, as well as his diverse life story. From this, he draws various digital and economic policy competencies.
     
    Arriving from Cameroon to Germany at the age of 12, Armand knows what it means to persevere and fight for one's own mission. We believe in his ability to be an ambassador for a new, socially and ecologically reformed economy and to demonstrate to the Social Democrats what dynamic progressive politics can look like.

    Kassem Taher Saleh

    Electoral District 159 Dresden-Süd | Bündnis90/Die Grünen | List Position 4
    Kassem was the lead candidate of the Green Youth in Saxony and ran as a direct candidate in the Dresden I electoral district, entering the Bundestag with the 4th position on the Saxony list of Bündnis90/Die Grünen. Kassem brings his passion for sustainable urban policy as chairman and member of the Committee on Housing, Construction, Urban Development & Municipalities. Additionally, he is a deputy member of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid as well as the Committee on Climate Protection & Energy.
     
    Kassem Taher Saleh has taken responsibility for himself, his family, and fellow human beings since his youth and has faced linguistic and bureaucratic barriers. His early political and party involvement, particularly focusing on asylum policy and sustainable urban policy that takes the climate crisis seriously, impressed the BNB jury. He advocates for a strong civil society and actively opposes racism and discrimination. He represents the emergence of a modern, diverse Free State of Saxony – thereby confronting backward thinking, particularly in the electoral district of PEGIDA marches.

    Lena Werner

    Electoral District 202 Bitburg (Eifel Mosel) | SPD | List Position 10
    Lena Werner has previously volunteered with Brand New Bundestag. Inspired by the many other volunteers and candidates that BNB had already supported at that time, Lena decided to run for the Bundestag herself. She is a member of the Committee on Tourism and the Economic Committee, as well as a deputy member of the Committee on European Union Affairs.
    Lena's key topics are social justice, gender equality, and forward-looking, sustainable tourism.

    Antje Grothus (North Rhine-Westphalia)

    Electoral District Rhein-Erft Kreis II | Bündnis90/Die Grünen
    Climate activist Antje Grothus has long been involved in the phase-out of coal and the associated structural transformation. As a resident of the Hambach Forest, she successfully fought for its preservation. In the Coal Commission, she represented the concerns of residents of communities threatened by coal mining.
    Antje impressed the jury with her unwavering commitment to climate protection. She is also well-connected and capable of bridging the gap between civil society and parliament.
     
    In the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Antje is the spokesperson for transformation, sustainable structural change, and participation, as well as the spokesperson for mining safety. Additionally, she is an active member of the Main Committee and the Committee on Economy, Industry, Climate Protection, and Energy.

    Djenabou Diallo-Hartmann (Lower Saxony)

    Electoral District Garbsen/Wedemark | Bündnis90/Die Grünen
    Djenabou Diallo-Hartmann is familiar with racism and discrimination from her own experience. It is one of the reasons why the 36-year-old has been advocating for effective measures against racism and discrimination for years. Another key focus of Djenabou is modern family policy, particularly the widespread availability of all-day childcare, to better reconcile family and career in practice.
     
    The jury was impressed by Djenabou's passion and determination to combat racism and discrimination in Lower Saxony. The jury was particularly impressed by Djenabou's intensive and long standing work within civil society on this issue.
    In the state parliament, she fulfills the role of deputy parliamentary group leader, treasurer, and spokesperson for migration, refugees, and anti-racism. Additionally, Djenabou is an active member of the Petitions Committee and the Commission on Migration and Participation.

    Hetav Tek (Bremen)

    CDU | List Position 20
    Hetav Tek has been advocating for the equal participation of young people, especially those with migrant backgrounds, for decades. Her main topics also include combating right-wing extremism, strengthening (international) youth work, and fostering remembrance culture in migrant societies.
     
    In the Bremen Parliament, Hetav serves as the spokesperson for youth and LGBTQ+ politics for her faction and also as the deputy chairperson. She is the chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Committee and a member of the Committee on Federal Affairs, Europe, International Contacts, and Development Cooperation. Additionally, she serves as the Commissioner for Social Integration and Equal Opportunities in the state executive board of the CDU.
    In our collaboration, Hetav's open-mindedness and strong alignment with her topics stand out, rooted in her extensive experience in advocating for young people's interests.

    Nelly Waldeck (Schleswig-Holstein)

    Electoral District Kiel Ost | Bündnis 90/Die Grünen
    The 24-year-old Nelly Waldeck from Kiel advocates for a (feminist) mobility transformation in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament, which considers the needs of all citizens. The climate activist's main focuses are on transport, climate, and energy policies. Additionally, she advocates for better integration of climate and social policies.
    Nelly was the lead candidate of the Green Youth Schleswig-Holstein and, following her election to the state parliament, participated in negotiating the coalition agreement between the CDU and Bündnis 90/ Die Grünen.
     
    She impressed BNB with her passionate approach to political issues, supported by deep knowledge. Nelly's commitment and personal involvement are clearly reflected in her activism, which she brings to parliament. She effectively makes complex political issues accessible to a wide audience, making her an outstanding mediator in the political arena.

    Electoral District München-Pasing | Bündnis 90/ Die Grünen
    Julia Post represents the Munich-Pasing electoral district in the Bavarian state parliament for Bündnis 90/ Die Grünen since the state elections in October 2023. One of Julia's main focus points is a forward-looking economic policy. This includes a circular economy, healthy and diverse working environment, and digitalization aimed at liberating our administration from bureaucracy and enabling genuine service provision.
     
    Julia's holistic approach to economic matters impressed the BNB jury. Additionally, she demonstrated a strong commitment to equality and social entrepreneurship, which she showcased during her time at SEND e.V.

    Anna Rasehorn (Bavaria)

    Electoral District Augsburg-Ost | SPD
    Anna Rasehorn successfully ran as the SPD candidate in the Augsburg-East electoral district for the state parliament election. As a 31-year-old nurse and mother, she is particularly passionate about family-friendly policies in Bavaria, promoting sustainable transportation, and ensuring affordable housing.
    Anna serves as the deputy parliamentary group leader in the Bavarian State Parliament and is a member of the Committee on Environment and Consumer Protection.
     
    She advocates for increasing childcare facilities and improving working conditions for educators, as well as recognizing the importance of care work. Additionally, Anna aims to advance the transportation transition by expanding public transportation, introducing a 365-euro ticket, and promoting the development of Bavaria's cycling network. According to Anna, affordable housing should be promoted through cooperative and primarily municipal construction. Apart from her profession, Anna is politically and civically involved in various associations.

    Josefine Koebe (Hesse)

    Electoral District Bergstraße II | SPD
    Dr. Josefine Koebe, age 34, successfully ran as a candidate for the SPD in the Hessian State Parliament in 2023. Her initial political involvement stemmed from her desire to address the childcare crisis in Berlin, and she had previously been active in advocating for increased participation during her student years.
    Her core political interests lie in social issues, particularly in the areas of education, health and care, integration, the labor market, and family. As an economist, she advocates for the urgent societal recognition and enhancement of these sectors.
     
    Josefine serves as the Secretary General of the Hessian SPD. In the Hessian State Parliament, she is the spokesperson for early childhood education, a member of the Committee on Science and Culture, and the Subcommittee on Financial Controlling and Administrative Management. Additionally, she serves as a deputy member of the State Youth Welfare Committee.

    Christoph Sippel (Hesse)

    Electoral District Schwalm-Eder | Bündnis 90/Die Grünen
    25-year-old Christoph Sippel has been politically active for almost ten years and was elected to the Hessian state parliament for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in 2023. There, he serves as a member of the Interior Committee and the Health and Family Policy Committee. Additionally, he is the spokesperson for the topics of Municipalities, Fire and Disaster Protection, State Personnel, Families, and LGBTQ+ issues.
     
    As a volunteer football referee, Christoph grew up in a small town in North Hessen and is familiar with the problems and challenges of rural areas. Therefore, his political focus lies in the areas of mobility, rural development, and disaster management. Christoph is also involved in his sports club and serves in the district council alongside his political responsibilities.
